We kicked off the 2nd Annual Michael Oremus Alumni Soccer game with a cocktail party held at the New Paltz VFW on Saturday evening, November 10th. One hundred and fifty supporters attended the event and celebrated in memory of Michael and the establishment of the Foundation. The cocktail party was also a reunion of friends and family of Michael’s and a pep rally for the tournament.
Over 30 teams from around the region participated in the event at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton and an impressive number of spectators came out in support of the tournament. A silent auction, raffles, and a tribute to Michael were all part of the day’s events.
The Foundation would like to thank everyone who supported and participated in the tournament.
Major financial sponsorship for the tournament was provided by:
- Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union

The tournament, which is a yearly event, raised $19,000 for the Foundation. This money will be used to continue the Foundation’s mission to provide academic scholarships and funding for recreational activities for youth in the Town of Lloyd and surrounding communities.
In 2007, the Foundation contributed more than $5,000 to support scholarships at Highland High School and youth soccer. In 2008, the foundation has committed more than $25,000 to be used to support academic scholarships, youth soccer, baseball, and other youth scholastic and recreational activities.
The Foundation is actively looking for ways to help families of military personnel who are serving in or have been discharged from the military and are in need of financial assistance, especially in regard to the academic or recreational needs of children.
